Breaking Free Part II
You dress a certain way intentionally. When you go out on a date, ladies you take extra time in your makeup and outfit to show yourself at your best. Image says a lot about people. You can tell a lot about a person simply by the image they portray. When you allow God to really work in your life, you will be amazed at how much even your physical appearance will change. A few years ago my wife and I were on a cruise and ate every night with the same people. We assumed they were all in their late 40’s or 50’s. After a few nights we began talking about age and they thought Kirsten and I were only 19 or 20 years old. I was 31 at the time. They then stated their age to be only 35. To God be all the glory. Living how God wants me to live, will transform my image.
“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” Genesis 1:26 KJV
God made us in His image. Truth is though, changing your image is a key to breaking free. Your friends and family that know you don’t want anything about you to change. Jesus had the same challenge. Jesus? Isn’t that just Joseph, the carpenter’s son? People want to exert control over you by telling you what you are capable of. They do this, because the image they have of you is not the image God has of you.
“Do what God’s teaching says; don’t just listen and do nothing. When you only sit and listen, you are fooling yourselves. Hearing God’s teaching and doing nothing is like looking at your face in the mirror and doing nothing about what you saw. You go away and immediately forget how bad you looked. But when you look into God’s perfect law that sets people free, pay attention to it. If you do what it says, you will have God’s blessing. Never just listen to his teaching and forget what you heard.” James 1:22-25 ERV
I am not just talking about shallow external changes. I am speaking about an image that comes from within. God told Jeremiah the prophet not to be afraid of their faces or concern himself that he was young. Their image of you is one thing, God’s image is entirely different. God makes you brand new! If you stay with Him, God will change your image. You will walk bolder, smile bigger, and laugh more freely with God.
“The Jewish leaders understood that Peter and John had no special training or education. But they also saw that they were not afraid to speak. So the leaders were amazed. They also realized that Peter and John had been with Jesus.” Acts 4:13 ERV
The Pharisees were challenged and confused. They could see that Peter and John were not men of high rank and birth. They were not educated or trained to address a crowd. Yet, they marveled at the boldness of them. Physical image said one thing, internal image showed something entirely different! If you could see yourself as God sees you, you would never be the same. You would carry yourself different. You would speak different. You would reveal God to this world. You are after all, made in His image.
